FARM STORE AND NEXT TO LAST SPRING CSA

Two pieces of BIG NEWS:

First, the Farm Store now can accept SNAP EBT. Please come by for some very good food. The Farm Store is full of nursery starts, great food, seed potatoes -- Nicola, Yukon Gold, Banana Fingerlings --, and other good things.

Second, TWO NEW PICK UP LOCATIONS have been added: Wednesday at Blackjack Valley Farms south of Sedgewick Road, and Thursday at the Bremerton Farmers Market.

Shares will be at Blackjack Valley Farms, each CSA pick up day on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m.to sunset, and Thursday from sunrise to sunset.

Shares will be at the Bremerton Farmers Market in Evergreen Park each CSA pick up day on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., when the market is open.

IT'S A SUNNY DAY

The sun is out and so are we. We are planting today. Here is what is going in the ground outdoors:

Leeks, head lettuce, celery, two kinds of carrots, salad mix, two kinds of beets, kolrabi, parsnips, and rutabaga.

In the high tunnel, Kelly is transplanting our sweet bell peppers.

There is so much more to plant, but that looks like a full day's work.

We are planting for a 150 full share CSA season this year.

Our First Time Vending at the Bremerton Farmers Market

The Bremerton Farmers Market starts TODAY, Thursday May 3rd, at the Evergreen Park at 14th and Park Avenue from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Abundantly Green will be there with a cart full of veggies. This is the first time we have vended at Bremerton. This is a so wonderful. We will be at the edge of the park in the parking lot with our bright yellow cart.
We will have much of the same veggies that we had at the Farm Store there, plus ground round. See Monday's post for a list.

Please come by and enjoy our harvest, and meet Cliff and Sarah.

CSA THIS WEEK
This week is the sixth CSA pick up for the Spring Season. We have a great variety of vegetables this week:
potatoes
salad mix
mustard greens
chard
fennel bulb
radishes
beets
green onions

garlic greens

Click here to see how much of each is in each CSA Share this week.

Until the next slaughter, we have only ground round for sale in our Farm Store.

We will have fryers at the end of May, and we already have orders coming in. We are holding the price at $5 per pound (minus 10% for current CSA members). This is hard to do because feed costs have gone up recently, as have the costs of everything else.

Approved for SNAP

The big news down on the farm is that we now take SNAP EBT at the Farm Store.

The USDA approved us last month after sending out an inspector to make sure we were really a farm store. He took pictures of our Farm Store area, our cash register (that seemed to be a big thing), and the vegetables, chickens, and cattle.  Last week the card reader arrived, and J.P Morgan, who has the banking contract gave Cliff instructions on how to use it, with some practice runs.

Some of our customers are foster parents, and others have been out of work for a long time. We feel that this is a courtesy to everyone to accept SNAP. All of the food stuffs we sell are SNAP eligible,

SNAP cannot be used to purchase nursery or other non-food items, Veggie Bucks, or CSA Shares. That's the rules.

WE ask those using the SNAP EBT to be patient with us as we learn the new system and how to use the card reader.

Our family farm since 1892.

Our business was founded in 1892 and changes with the generations and the needs of our community. We decided to go into farming produce in 2004, and became WSDA/USDA certified organic in 2005. We started our CSA in 2006 and the response continues to be overwhelming
